Advice and Opinion Work
Dean is available to provide legal advice and opinions on the wide range of environmental and resource management law areas within which he practices.
Advocacy and Litigation
Whether a client is seeking environmental consents for a project, or opposing a proposed development, Dean can assist in advocating for the outcome being sought, either directly with regulators or other parties, or at Council hearings, the Environment Court, or higher courts.
Strategy Development
While much of Dean’s work as a barrister is often focused on advocacy, through litigation processes, a key aspect of his practice also involves helping clients to avoid unnecessary litigation by developing strategies that minimise the risk of costly and time consuming appeals, or help resolve those that do arise before they get to court. Dean is also available to provide more general advice and guidance to clients on environmental compliance and consenting strategy. Often, getting the overall strategy right at the outset is the key to successfully consenting, or opposing, a development in the most effective and efficient manner.
Mediation and Negotiation
Alternative dispute resolution is now central to most environmental law processes. Mediation provides a formal opportunity to obtain outcomes which avoids the necessity of litigation. Dean can assist clients to obtain the outcomes they are seeking through negotiation and mediation.
